How can I track foxes?

• Paw prints: A fox’s paw prints closely resemble those of a middle-size dog. As usual with canids, claw marks are also visible.
  
  
• Fox trails: Foxes keep moving along the same routes. With time these become well-trodden paths, game passages or fox trails. In winter they are particularly easy to recognise in the snow. • Dens and holes: Foxes dig dens for breeding or resting and they dig holes for storing food leftover after they have finished eating (for more).

• Fox droppings: FThe thumb-size fox turds normally taper to a point at one end. The remains of food such as the pips and stones of fruit or mouse hairs are often visible. Foxes like depositing their faeces in high spots to mark their territory (for more).
  
  
• Fox odour Foxes scent mark their territory with urine and faeces. They have a peculiar acrid smell that everyone who has ever smellt it before, for instance at a den, will immediately recognise as fox odour and know where they live.
